Lineage

His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche is a lineage holder of Dzogchen, the culmination of teachings within the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. Dzogchen means "Great Perfection" and encompasses the most profound view, path, and realization of our self-perfected, innate unconditional nature. His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche holds the Nyingma Kama lineage, the Rinchen Terzod lineage, and the Taklung Kagyu lineage, which include the Pema Sangtik and Dudjom lineages.

One of the most widely practiced and known lineages within the Nyingma tradition is the Longchen Nyinthig, or Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse. This transmission originates from the subtle Buddha body of Samantabhadra to Vajrasattva to the first human master Garab Dorje, through Vimalamitra, Padmasambhava, Longchenpa, Jigme Lingpa and Patrul Rinpoche, among many others, to the present lineage masters. Foremost among them is the root teacher of His Eminence Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche, His Holiness Chatralwa Sangye Dorje.

The Padma Sangthig is a treasure teaching of Padmasambhva revealed by Jedrung Thrinley Jampa Jungne Rinpoche, a Riwoche Lama who passed away in the earlier part of the last century. This is a Dzogchen (atiyoga) practice that includes both mahayoga and anuyoga practices. H.E. Shyalpa Tenzin Rinpoche is a lineage holder of this tradition and many of his students engage in the Padma Sangthig preliminary practices.

“Paying homage to the teacher draws forth the blessings of thousands of years of profound realization and wisdom. Our teacher holds the treasure of the Buddha’s wisdom and is the embodiment of enlightenment. The kindness of my own teacher is beyond all measure. In his relationship with me, there is never a single moment of selfish thinking, only the radiance and warmth of his selfless care. Whether your teacher is near or far, you are always accompanied by the splendor of his or her natural wisdom and enormous richness. Within this sacred mandala, there is no cause for narrow-minded thinking and no place for half-hearted endeavor. We all possess the potential for awakening, yet it is best to have the guidance of a teacher who holds the power of his or her lineage and has a pure and direct link to the Buddha’s blessings.” - Shaylpa Tenzin Rinpoche
