2014 Nepal, Bhutan Pilgrimage Trip - Following Buddha's Footsteps

Fri, Sept 26: Arrive in Kathmandu, Nepal


Sat, Sept 27: Shyalpa Monastery Visit the Shrine Hall of Shyalpa Monastery and join Vajra Guru Mantra recitation in the new Mipham Shedra Education Complex. Enjoy the beautiful and peaceful gardens overlooking Kathmandu valley and attend daily prayers and chanting with monks and nuns.


Sun, Sept 28: Fly from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan (50 min.). Visit temples. Paro is an historic town with many sacred sites and old historic buildings scattered throughout the valley. In addition, the Paro area is wide and verdant and is recognized as a one of the most beautiful landscapes in all of Bhutan.


Mon, Sept 29: Hike to Tiger’s Nest (2-3 hours) The famous Tiger’s Nest is located in the valley of Paro and is a major highlight of visiting Bhutan. It was built in 1692 around the cave where Guru Padmasambhava meditated in the eighth century for three years, three months, three weeks, & three hours. Guru Padmasambhava brought Buddhism to Bhutan and Tibet.


Tues, Sept 30: Drive from Paro to Thimphu, Bhutan (1 hr., 15 min.). Visit temples and overnight stay in Thimphu, Capital city of Bhutan. Established as the capital in 1961, Thimphu has a youthful exuberance that challenges the country’s conservatism and proud ancient tradition. The ever-present juxtaposition of old and new is one of its appealing features—in addition to shopping!


Wed. Oct 1: Drive from thimphu to paro and Fly from Paro to Kathmandu. Afternoon kora at boudhnath stupa Visit Boudhnath and circumambulate the giant stupa. Browse through the shops and relax at a rooftop cafe and truly experience the sacred peace.


Thur, Oct 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Lumbini (30 min.) Go on pilgrimage to the sacred land of Lumbini, the birthplace of Lord Buddha. See the many sacred art temples and the future site of the Mahasiddha Sanctuary for Universal Peace.


Fri, Oct 3: Fly from Lumbini to Kathmandu in the morning and join the Vajra Guru Mantra recitation. Afternoon sightseeing in Patan Durbar Sq. and Thamel. See Durbar Square and its many sacred Hindu temples. Shop around the tourist area of Thamel for sacred art and souvenirs.
